Sauerkraut – Just taken delivery of another batch of Morgiel’s sauerkraut, this time with added carrot. They are exceptionally good value for live organic kraut.
New cheese – At a recent food fair we came across Bryn Sinodun, a deliciously smooth goat’s cheese from Norton & Yarrow. So its in the shop this weekend and guess what? If you guys don’t buy it I get to eat it yum yum! At the same time we have added a couple of extra lines of organic cheese from Caws Cenarth, Cenarth Brie and Golden Cenarth. However we can, of course, take orders for any of the Caws Cenarth cheese range.
Saving money – Prices continue to rise with each delivery and no doubt will continue as fuel costs spiral upwards. However, we do differ from supermarkets in this regard. Our policy is to sell at RRP (recommended retail price) and we DO NOT reprice old stock to the new prices like supermarkets do so you can often find we will be cheaper than the supermarket at times of inflation. You also need to be very aware of how supermarkets use sophisticated methods to take more money off you.
In our shop you can buy a single carrot, two apples and one banana and a lot of our solo customers do exactly that and find they can save a lot of money on their weekly shop. Then you can save money on shampoos, washing up liquid, detergents etc by refilling your old container and save money on oats, rice, lentils nuts etc by buying loose as the charge for the container can be upwards of £1 for a bottle you just throw away!
I actually went into M&S at Cheshire Oaks for the first time this week and had occasion to walk through the food hall – a very rare event for me. Firstly, I would say that as someone who has worked for a potato packing company in Kings Lynn, I am aware that produce selected for M&S, though not often organic, is always superior to the other supermarkets. The reason for that is that their buyers regularly visited our factory and inspected the produce where other supermarkets didn’t bother. However, I was appalled to see rows and rows of packets of pre-prepared, processed foods at M&S. It is as if we are in a wholly different line of business at Joleen Meadows to the supermarkets. Our customers actually know how to cook and want real food.

One of our customers takes an entire case of frozen blueberries for example which he uses daily in smoothies and which we can sell to him at a discount to RRP because we have no wastage. We can always order SUMA goods in for you and SUMA will break cases so you may not have to buy as much as you think – just ask Liz.
