The prices below are valid for the week ending Sunday 1 March 2026. More sprout stalks this week. Please note these are priced EACH not per pound. we were puzzled that such a lot were left over last weekend when the ones we took home and cooked were utterly delicious. They seem to keep much fresher on the stalk. Choose the fatest stalk you can because they are all the same price – £1.70. Lovely looking red peppers from Terra Rica this week – I can’t imagine them hanging around long. Last week’s bananas arrived over ripe which was disappointing but this week they look to be back to perfect. As I type this they are in the sitting room ripening up nicely at room temperature.
All items are organic unless stated otherwise.
Note re this week’s potato varieties:
ACOUSTIC
This is a second early variety with waxy, pale yellow flesh, good for salads and for boiling. When lifted later in the year, it becomes more floury and better for chips, mash, baking or roasting.
RED CARA
Red Cara is a late maincrop potato (introduced in 1981 from Ireland) with red-skinned, round-to-oval tubers and cream flesh. A versatile potato with moist, creamy flesh ideal for boiling, baking, chipping and roasting.
DÉSIRÉE
The Désirée potato has yellow flesh with a distinctive flavour. A popular choice amongst many celebrity chefs including Delia Smith and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, due to their potential to make fantastic roast potatoes. It is a versatile, fairly waxy variety which is firm and holds its shape, and is useful for most methods of cooking. In short, excellent for roasting, boiling, frying and mashing. However it is susceptible to scab so will probably need peeling and therefore is not suitable as jacket potatoes.
ALOUETTE
Alouette is a versatile table variety and has gorgeous oval tubers with bright red skin and yellow flesh. Perfect for baking, boiling, chipping or roasts.
